‘Helios’ Launch Campaign

The Challenge

Universities across the UK are facing declining local awareness. According to Public First, 51% of people know “very little” about the role their local university plays in their local area.1 But this challenge isn’t unique to one university; it is felt nationally and affects institutions regardless of size.

Despite this, UK universities are important civic and economic vehicles. The University of Birmingham contributes £4.4bn to the UK economy every year, and it’s research impact transforms lives, teaches us more about the world, and addresses some of the biggest challenges we face.

But universities are also social conveners, and so their part in regional identity is paramount

But the story universities tell their local audience is

But it is the responsibility of communications

Those who live and work in cities with global research institutions may not full appreciate the local and civic impact

To celebrate the University of Birmingham’s acquisition of ‘Helios’ by Luke Jerram, I led on digital content and influencer engagement to sell out the public launch event.
